We have run two Campsite Artists Retreats.
Both have been funded by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation and took place on Treverven Campsite in Cornwall.
The idea of the retreats is to offer artists
some time away from what is known as the 'hamster wheel' of making work, and to encourage a week of thinking about and
working on new material for small spaces.
Artists were put forward from various venues around the UK to come with us and camp for a week.
Activities included informal sharings, impromptu workshops, coastal walks, nighttime tent concerts and the occasional ice cream.
"I was hoping for space. Which it gave me, in beautiful arm and lungfuls."
"I consider myself to have been set free from any sense of competition...I found within myself a championing of other people arising which felt sane and healthy and vital."
"I think it was important and exciting to be on the campsite with people that I didn't know as this allowed me to be myself, independent and encouraged me to develop new artistic relationships."
